Medicare enrollees will get a one-time $90 payment
More than 20 million Medicare Part B enrollees will get a one-time $90 payment in early October, according to a White House fact sheet. Most will be paid by direct deposit, the rest by check. Enrollees whose premiums Medicaid already pays, and those who pay the Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount, do not qualify. Eligibility questions go to 1-800-MEDICARE.
Supreme Court sets December 9 argument on third-country deportations
The Supreme Court will hear arguments December 9 on whether the administration can deport migrants to countries not named in their removal orders, according to SCOTUSblog. Until then, Tuesday's interim order allows those removals for now. The Court also agreed Thursday to hear the policy of detaining immigrants arrested inside the country without a bond hearing.
Farm energy grants stop paying for solar and wind on cropland
The Agriculture Department's Rural Energy for America Program will stop funding new solar and wind systems on cropland on October 16. Applications with obligation forms signed before then will still be processed. Projects must be running, with a year of performance data, before they apply, and panels or turbines with any part from a foreign adversary country do not qualify.
Ten Most Wanted suspect pleads not guilty in malware case
Anibal Alexander Canelon Aguirre, on the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Ten Most Wanted list, pleaded not guilty in Nebraska federal court on October 2. Prosecutors allege he built malware that makes cash machines pay out, in attacks tied to Tren de Aragua that targeted or hit 47 states. An indictment is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent.
